FIND THE IMAGE THAT IS RIGHT FOR YOU:

Today we have a few easy ways to start locating copyright-free media:

  1. Google search with Usage Rights filter. Google image searches are great, but you DON'T want to use someone else's images without their permission!
  2. Search Creative Commons licensed material on Flickr. Search within Flickr for material that is already licensed with specific permissions.
  3. Search The Commons on Flickr. Search images from the world's public photography archives.

Here is a brief explanation of the CC-license types, from creativecommons.org. There are literally millions of publicly available images, even if you want the least restrictive "Attribution" license:

OTHER SOURCES FOR COPYRIGHT-FREE MEDIA:

Now that you know where to look, it's time to find an image that you like, save the image(s) to your desktop or to a flash drive, and we'll move on to photo editing!

EASY PHOTO EDITING USING FOTOFLEXER:

Fotoflexer is a free, extremely easy-to-use online photo editor. In addition to the "free and easy" part, fotoflexr allows you to easily retrieve photos for editing from a variety of sources:

  • your computer
  • your flickr account
  • your facebook account
  • the web, if you have the URL for the photo
  • many other social networking/social media sites!

Try using FotoFlexer to cite the Creative Commons photo(s) that you are using:

Here are some resources to get you started:

"Now that I have my images, what else can I do with them?"

One interesting option is to create an interactive video with ThingLink:

Domo eats any of Mary's baked goods,

and he also eats faculty members who don't give their feedback about the Technology Tuesdays series! ;-)
