Assessment - Tech Tools

Last week, we asked the following questions:

  • What is assessment?
  • How do I assess for student learning?
  • What technologies are out there to help me assess for student learning?

 

This week we want to ask:

  • How do I (and my students) use the technologies that will demonstrate learning?

PREZI

As with any tool, Prezi can be a force for good . . . Maria Andersen is probably THE exemplar of prezis. Take a look at this one, which is quite popular:

 

 

 

 

OR Prezi can be a force for evil . . . here is a good idea gone slightly awry (in our opinion, anyway . . . ). Clearly an end-of semester project - the type that we'd like you to think about for your students:

 

 

 

 

ACTIVITY #1: Click through both of these presentations on your own for a few minutes, and think about what you like and what you dislike. Then get together with another workshop participant(s) and create a master list of your likes & dislikes, so that we can come up with a list of suggestions for "Prezi Best Practices!"

 

PARTICIPANT IDEAS for Best Practices with Prezi:

Learning process used with a game, pay better attention to content, good visuals.

 

When designing a prezi consider: distance, relative size, and rotation.


 

ACTIVITY #2: This is my first prezi - what are the signs that I am still a novice? What could I be doing better?

 

 

PARTICIPANT SUGGESTIONS for the novice Prezi user:

Too much zooming can be harmful to the presentation, rules and best practices for creating a prezi in assignment,

 

 

 


 

ACTIVITY #3: Now that we've discussed the potential of Prezi, discuss with your partner(s) how you think you/your students could use Prezi to demonstrate that learning is indeed occurring in your classes!
