See how K12 educators are leveraging the fact that cellphone use is ubiquitous, rather than fighting it:

Potential uses mentioned in this video:

  • Get students to text you their questions
  • Get students to take each others' photos as an icebreaker, and send them to you (you can then familiarize yourself with your students' faces)
  • Video recordings
  • Audio Recordings (anyone can phone in a podcast using sites like gcast, podomatic, gabcast, etc)
  • Photos
  • Internet search
  • What are your ideas for m-learning? Add them here!

BRAIN OVERLOAD AT NECC2008 - Great presentations here on using cellphones for instruction!! www.cellphonesinlearning.com!!! Also, a few mindbenders on using the iPod: www.learninginhand.com

'K, so I spent waaaaay too much time yesterday on Go2Web20 looking at potential mobile applications. The sites and descriptions are from Go2Web20, but I'll be checking 'em out -- if you've tried any of them or have recommendations, feel free to leave your comments:

  • AbbyMe: send messages online
  • BlueBunny: Follow the concerts you love
  • BrightKite: location-based social networking
  • Cellcast: One call to all
  • CellTell: empowered mobile storytelling
  • ChaCha: Ask a question; get an answer via cellphone
  • CityMint: food to go
  • FixMyMovie: Total Video Makeover
  • iSpott: mobile scavenger hunt. Sorry to say this, but it appears that iSpott has gone belly-up . . .
  • JamboNetwork: "Nothing beats a face-to-face meeting"
  • MizPee: This is my personal favorite, proving once again that you can find anything on the web. Educational?Probably not. Where to go on the go
  • moboPic: Make wallpapers for cellphones
  • Mofuse: Mobilize your website or blog
  • molv: stream live videos from mobile to web See molv on Twitter . . .
  • Movino: Broadcast live from your mobile phone
  • Myxer: the most stuff for your phone
  • NowNow: ask a question, get an answer via cellphone
  • Phoja:Social photo discussion
  • ScanR: Turns paper into useful digital information
  • trackr!: GPS tracking
  • Wauw! : free entertainment for your mobile
  • Xanco: free mobile weblog

And, specifically for mobile Twitter users (a word to the wise -- most of the folks who are savvy enough to be able to program an app for Twitter are building stuff that works on Firefox. A lot of these won't work on Explorer) :

  • Chirrup: comment system for Twitter
  • MyTweetMap: Map/Twitter mashup
  • Pikter: share photos via Twitter or Jaiku. According to the site, Pikter is still in alpha, but they hope to move to beta mode by early August 08. Follow Pikter on Twitter
  • Quotably: follow Twitter conversations
  • Summize: Search Twitter [topics] in real time. Actually, Summize is no longer Summize, but has been swallowed by Twitter.
  • TweetCube: share files on Twitter
  • TweetScan:search [people] inside Twitter content
  • TwitDir: Twitter directory
  • TwitterFone: send messages to Twitter with voice
  • Twittervision: map/tweet mashup. Shows tweets occuring worldwide. Mesmerizing, in that I-should-really-be-doing-something-else-right-now kind of a way . . .
  • Twitzu: Events for Twitter
  • Twizon: Where Twitter meets Amazon
  • WiiiZZZ: what music shared today on Twitter
