Effective August 2009, all Maricopa students have access to a Google account. What does that mean for you in your teaching? How can you use these tools in the classroom? GoogleApps can be used for collaborative projects (Docs and Spreadsheets), group study and/or group projects (Docs and Spreadsheets, Sites, Groups), data collection (Spreadsheets and Forms), self-reflection (Blogger), to keep up-to-date on news in your field of study (Reader), to participate in synchronous chat (Talk), and keep on task for scheduled class events (Calendar).
GoogleApps is a suite of free online tools accessible from a single account. Although there are tens of "apps," these are the most basic ones:
Students access their Maricopa Google account at www.maricopa.edu/google. Although faculty do have GoogleApps@Maricopa accounts, they are not encouraged to use them. Instead, faculty are strongly advised to forward any Gmail they receive to their college address, due to District policy. You are encouraged to create your own personal commercial Google account so you can see what applications students now have access to. You can access GoogleApps at the Google sign in page using a non-Maricopa address.
This Google site has loads of resources for using GoogleApps in teaching and learning.
This MCLI-sponsored site links to all Google resources created by Shelley Rodrigo, MCC faculty.
This Google site has all Google resources developed by the Teaching and Learning Center at SMCC.
